Question - TE25 - Jumpy video in Mpeg2 No.34860
Flobbo  2003-02-25 22:46:53 ( ID:mpr4lvx5kro )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello!

When I encode a video in Mpeg2 and use a 16:9 source and encode it in 16:9 and burn it, the picture on my TV is all jumpy. This means that it kinda wiggles from one side to the other all the time. Can't SVCD handle 16:9 encoding or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

You have set your field order wrong. You need to set it to the opposite of whichever one you chose originally.

Hello everybody!

I love TMPGEnc. It is really the best. I do have a request though: Couldn't you add a little window or function that tells you the estimated output file size? This would greatly enhance working with TMPGEnc and you wouldn't need some crappy 3rd party bitrate calculator.

Question - TE25 - Cannot import certain AVI files into TMPG No.34854
Tom gutjahr  2003-02-25 18:35:28 ( ID:qtu4puq.di6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a strange problem: Tmpeg does not let me import 2 fairly long AVI videos which I shot on miniDV and edited in premiere into the source file window in order to encode them into mpeg2s.

I can import them into the sound file window, but NOT into the video file window. They are roughly 20 GIGs long.

I works with other, very short files though. What might be the problem?
I would be greatful for help.

I've had this problem and the only solution I've found for it is to re-render (or "re-save") the video in something outside Premiere, like Windows Movie Maker or Vegas Video. This solves the problem but you naturally need the extra space for the new files. Anyone know any tweeks to solve the problem in Premiere?

Chris G  2003-02-25 20:00:51 ( ID:7bazq8kjgbj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Another way I found around the problem was to export the video to tape and then recapture them. If you have limited HD space this may be your only option.

Minion  2003-02-25 22:00:06 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try raiseing the Priority of the "AVI2(OpenDML) File Reader" or the "Direct show" file reader in the Vfapi Plugins...This Might help getting the Files loaded...

Ashy  2003-02-26 17:54:04 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If that doesn't do it then just frameserve the AVI from Virtualdub or AVIsynth.

Question - TE25 - Cant read avi files No.34851
stixster  2003-02-25 15:20:53 ( ID:wilapgngvzl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When using TMPGEnc i cannot open 2 of my avi files. two part movie both parts wont open (cannot open or is not supported) all other avi files open fine and convert. please help me???

Minion  2003-02-25 22:12:23 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If they are DivX or XviD file go to "options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "vfapi Plugins" and raise the "Direct Show File Reader" to "2"...

stixster  2003-02-26 13:06:34 ( ID:mnda2xr3jma )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

done that but now it just crashes tmpgenc.
HELP!!
thanks in advance

Question - TE25 - Won't load an AVI file No.34849
Walk Softly  2003-02-25 14:35:35 ( ID:11sk.njedac )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just downloaded the free version of software today. When I attempted to convert an AVI to DVD NTSC, it would not load an AVI created by Pinnacle Studio 8 capture, it said that the format was unsupported. What am I doing wrong?

Minion  2003-02-25 22:10:58 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

For DV AVI files try this, Go to "options" to "Enviromental settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and raise the Priority of the "AVI2(OpenDML) File Reader" to "1" or "2"..and if that doesn"t work then try Raiseing the "Direct Show File Reader" to "1" or "2"...

Question - TE25 - avi to mpeg No.34845
Jhing  2003-02-25 05:57:11 ( ID:9kztdqwsnoj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

after i convert my avi file to mpg1, the audio is gone. Anybody can help where to set it? I'm using the tmpgenc plus2.5

Minion  2003-02-25 22:08:06 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your audio is Gone Because either it was a format that Tmpgenc does not Officially support(AC3)or you don"t have the filters or codecs to decode that audio format or Tmpgenc is Just not accessing the codecs or filters to decode the audio, What you need to do is Use something like "Virtual Dub" or "AVI-MuX" to Extract the audio to Wav format and use the wav file as the audio source...

sexy-leroy  2003-02-26 12:34:51 ( ID:jrsc6ue7ck2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have the same problem as Jhing does. Great video after conversion but no audio. Installed are DivX, Xvid and Nimo Lite CodecPack, so the reason why it does not work cannot be the missing codec. I have also tried conversion of several different (with and without AC3) avi files, but still no luck.
What do you mean with "or Tmpgenc is Just not accessing the codecs or filters to decode the audio," ? What could be a reason for that ?

B/R

Minion  2003-02-26 21:08:49 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpgenc does Not Officially support AC3 audio so even if you do have the right codecs and filters it usually will not decode the audio..And Tmpgenc does not support "VBR Mp3" either so if the audio is that format then Tmpgenc will not decode it..and Sometimes even if you have all the right codecs and filters it just will not decode the audio sometimes, for no Real reason and you just have to deal with it..I don"t even use Mpeg encoders to encode the audio I allways use a seperate Audio encodeing program so I can get the Best possible Audio Quality...

Question - TE25 - 24fps Conversion Help? No.34841
Billy  2003-02-25 01:44:05 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey, I downloaded a movie trailer that was 24 fps! I did not know there was a 24! I ran it under VirtualDub and it said it had a VBR track so I switched the Audio to "Full Processing Mode", then saved the WAV file. Next, I set the Video to "Direct Stream Copy" and Audio to "No Audio", then saved the AVI file. In TMPGEnc, I selected the video and audio sources and started encoding. Since the trailer was only 3 minutes long, it was very fast. I viewed the MPEG clip but all it showed was black with no sound in mplayer2.exe! Why is this? I have texted both the AVI and the WAV and both worked fine.

Minion  2003-02-25 05:00:18 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes 24FPS is the same as 23.97FPS it is NTSC Film..For there to be Video in the Mpeg file you have to see video in the screen while encodeing..Try this ,Go to "options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and raise the Priority of the "Direct Show MultiMedia File Reader" to "2"...This should fix your problem and Try raiseing the "Wav File Reader" also for the Audio...

Billy  2003-02-25 05:25:49 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thank you! I raised the number to 1 and it shows fine. Before it was -1. What is that option for? Will it affect my other "normal" conversions?

Minion  2003-02-25 22:04:47 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The "VFAPI Plugins" just Make Tmpgenc compatible with different Formats,Most AVI formats like DivX/XVid/Mpeg-4 are Direct show Formats so the Direct show File reader makes it so tmpgenc can read these formats, It should not effect how your other files are encoded but if it does Just change the priority back or raise a Different Vfapi Plugin....

Question - TE25 - early cutoff No.34840
lana  2003-02-25 00:03:03 ( ID:wogyvkjgyic )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Everytime I frameserve from premier 6.0 to tmpgenc to encode my avi files into mpeg1 giles, tmpgenc closes itself just before the encoding finishes, so i keeping getting mpeg files which are 1-3 seconds short. Tmpgenc works fine if i open an avi file directly, so does anyone know of any settings or something which may be causing this problem, its really frustrating.

Thanks

Question - TE25 - TRIAL PERIOD??? No.34835
bobby19711  2003-02-24 23:55:24 ( ID:egxftwr3fzh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Why is it that when I start the program, it says "You can use MPEG-2 function as trial for more 29 days." I thought this was a free version of the software?

Billy  2003-02-25 01:39:52 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It is freeware. But the function for making MPEG-2 files in the program is only trial while the other things in the program are free. I guess MPEG-2 files are just better quality...

wcpaul  2003-02-25 01:42:20 ( ID:q7gr550x3gw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The "free" thing harkens back to the early days when people were mostly doing Mpeg 1 encoding and the Mpeg 2 stuff was flying "under the radar". Then the SW caught on and became widely used.

Anytime an Mpeg 2 encoder (or decoder) is distributed, a license fee must be paid to the organization which doles out money to patent holders. The author had to start charging to cover this. Relative to other, grossly overpriced, software (Cleaner, etc) TMPGEnc is a real bargain.

If you want sticker shock, start pricing Dolby AC-3 encoders. Ulead charges $200 just for the plugin. Dolby needs to consider a new pricing model.

bobby19711  2003-02-25 03:20:12 ( ID:egxftwr3fzh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So does that mean that I can still make files that will work on a VCD without MPEG 2? Sorry if I am asking dumb questions, but I am new to all of this. Thanks for your help!

Billy  2003-02-25 03:39:16 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, files that are MPEG-1 are for VCDs.

Question - TE25 - xvid to mpg goes jerky No.34833

when i encode a xvid avi to mpeg it is slightly jerky audio is fine. the original avi ran perfectly. HELP!!!!

Minion  2003-02-24 20:55:27 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sounds like you encoded to the Wrong Frame rate...You have to encode to the same frame rate as the source file...

Question - TE25 - pal mpg1 to ntsc mpg1 - problem with tmpgenc... No.34830
michaeldcoates  2003-02-24 13:42:47 ( ID:.xueyrgpmg. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi, i've just started using my pc to create vcd's - i upload my videos using my dv player and my firewire card and capture using a ulead product - then i get a huge avi file - so then i use tmpgenc to convert it to to a vcd file (mpg1 - since i'm in the uk i encode it in the pal format) - i then use nero to burn it to a vcd. which is all very well and good for me, the vcd play fine - but my american friend wants a copy and every time i try to convert the mpg1 file in tmpgenc from a pal file to a ntsc file it cuts off 20 seconds at the end of my 23 minute film, which looks dumb.

does anyone know why and if it's possible to rectify the situation? i don't want to have to start from scratch again if i can avoid it.

thanks for any help,
mik x

Question - TE25 - NEW TO PROGRAM No.34828
daveg  2003-02-24 13:37:19 ( ID:eeylgaggea2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Im new to this program could someone tell me how to convert avi files to mpeg I have tried this once and got a great picture but I did not get any sound

Minion  2003-02-24 20:52:45 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You Probably need to extract the sound out of the source file to a WAV file with "Virtual Dub" then use the Wav file as the audio source...
